Gili trawangan. We opted to go on an additional trip to Lombok, but after talking with locals they recommended going to one of the three Gili islands. 2/5/16 – 3/5/16
These islands are in the indian ocean between Bali and Lombok. After a bit of research we opted for Gili T, the largest of these isles. We weren’t disappointed. It took us 20 minutes by car to the port, then a 2 hour ferry crossing on the “fast boat” to get to our destination. The whole journey was amazing and passed relatively quickly. We stopped at Lombok and Gili A Before arriving at Gili T. Gili T has no vehicles – no cars, no buses, no motor bikes, not even taxis, however the only transport is by pony and cart. These were exceptional to travel by, very authentic, very rustic and at a pace that let’s the traveller view everything along their route. All ponies had bells attached so you could hear one approaching way before you caught sight of one. Very reminiscent of my childhood on Blackpool beach!
They say the island is small enough to cycle around in an hour, however its many bars can take many hours to get around, as we found out. The island is the epiphany of what you would find in any travel broachers of tropical islands. The sand is as soft as just fallen snow crunching underneath the feet, the ocean so crystal clear you can see for hundreds of meters, the sky so blue with the ever burning bright golden sun, pure heaven.
It was quite busy, even though this was out of season, but even so the locals were friendly, polite and charming, always wanting to help out where necessary. The streets, narrow and unsealed with an abundance of stores from boutique to traditional shops selling anything and everything, which we took full advantage of. A truly magnificent addition to our trip in Bali, and a definite MUST DO, the only shame was that we only booked 1 night on this island. We could have stayed for way more.
Tomorrow we leave this area and drive West and inland to Ubud.
What a lovely place. You guys look wonderful -tanned and relaxed x
