Brisbane

Brisbane
A few days after what’s was identified as the worst tropical cyclone in the southern hemisphere ever, we flew to Brisbane. 23/2/16 – 25/2/16 It was great to see the Fijians picking themselves up and starting over again as they proceeded to rebuild their lives.

The flight out of Fiji was a bumpy one, and we were sat opposite the loudest, most spoilt (under two year old), where at one point the mother of said child sat next to us with child on lap, who obviously needed a nappy change at least an hour before she decided to complete this task.
Virgin Australia informed us due to the lack of supplies in Fiji, our in flight meal consisted of a bread roll, a muffin, and a crumpled wrapped bacon and egg pie. To say this was the worst flight ever would be too kind.

We arrived late evening and caught the train to the city centre for our 2 night stay at the City Edge Hotel. The following morning we decided the best way to see the city, as we only had 24 hours, was to board the city sight seeing open decker bus. So tickets bought and we were soon sat on the front seats on the upper deck. This tour bus was money well spent as we had never been to Brisbane before and was pleasantly surprised to see this, the 3rd largest city in Australia. Very cosmopolitan, very affluent and very busy, we both loved it. So much so we will return in the next few weeks to stay longer. The tour itself took about 90 minutes to complete, as we went right through the city, to the south bank, along the river, (where we were informed people don’t swim in the river due to scare of sharks…..SHARKS, and around its outskirts. Very informative and a “must do” if like us you’ve never been here before. The architecture (where high raised modern glass structures are sat amongst the more traditional Victorian buildings on every street), was in itself, a brilliant masterpiece of modern living. Each street was tree lined, and we were informed by the guide that at one particular place on the bus tour, the trees were planted solely to catch falling windows from the sky scrapers above!!!!!
We headed out to Chinatown for a meal and a few drinks, including the Vodka bar where we thought best have a vodka tho everyone else was on the beer!
