And the beautiful Hawkes Bay. 30/11/15 – 05/12/15
After a short stay in Wellington for shopping and great food and wine and catching up with Bee and the gorgeous wee baby Mia, we headed out to Palmerston North, Weather has been rubbish so we only managed a short walk at Manawata Gorge and a quick look at NZs largest wind farm. We then set off to Hastings, a town going by the claim to be NZs most beautiful city, it is certainly a very lovely town. We took a trip to Havelock North, a really quaint ‘village’ and visited a couple of craft markets. We headed out to Napier for a few hours and had a wander along the beach front and into the aquarium to see the little penquins. On the way back we took a detour to Cape Kidnappers but didnt brave the four wheel trip to see the gannets, it was quite windy so they probably got blown off the cliff face anyway.
We left Hastings to drive through some of the most stunning scenery on the way to Gisborne. Most of the 3 hour journey was very reminiscent of the Whangamoas, just gorgeous. We stopped at the Mohere Hot Water springs for a dip and after a short walk in native bush we found we had the pools to ourselves! Selfies abound and as soon as i can get them off the camera i’ll post some.
Today we are in Gisborne, views are from Kaiti Hill.
Great blog so far – we miss you!
